An Open Letter to the Universe
Written to the prompt “Dear God…”
I wonder if when my grandmother thinks of me,She considers her prayers answered by you You or a monkey’s paw,When I asked my Catholic school teacher if my non Christian friends were going to hell,He seemed reluctant to share your truth,And even more so when I cited John 3:18,My father insisted on strong Christian values,It is Christian men I often came to know as sinners,My father was prayed for before his passing,He tells me he does not believe it worked,He told me he was dying and that I could handle it as a man,Two truths I do not accept,In that symmetrical,Rhyming year of virality,Of religious parasites and unholy influenza,I decided that you have appeared to many under different names and guises,For if I am but a reflection of you then you are no doubt an actor who loves performing,A lover of sarcasm and wit,Divine comedy,Dear God,I have loved you better since I started calling you the universe
