Once

Once, we were sun and moonFull of warmth, rich with coldA guiding light for those who held each other in darkness,Adulation bestowed upon us as long as the gift of four walls remains ours,What they can’t see won’t hurt them, what we never say continues to hurt us

Twice, we met before our bodies became each other’s relief,Our eyes spoke of love to each other,Our lips never did,Hours of conversations lost in the space where our truth hid,I wonder if those truths find themselves happier away from the shadow of these hollow vessels

Thrice, we wound each other with our souls hand in handI could never provide the silence you demand,You could never hear the sounds of my cries as I wept,What are you to me?What are we to us?
