I just wanna fly
“And then obviously COVID had me stuck but its good like,a breakfrom regular life I guess”
Living in a world where being black is a disability, living in a world where governments won’t take responsibility for the hate and the rage directed to those of a different ethnicityLiving in a world with the stereotypeWhere its gangsta to talk about taking another black man's lifeWhether with the hands on a gun or the edge of a knifeLiving in a world where my skin is seen as lesser-
You seem so scared is it my hairOr maybe the paper under my plateYou better be ready for warThey might justDivide up our streetsWill we ever find peace-
I find myself in this worldNot of my own volition but because you placed me hereAnd yet I find myself feeling forgottenWhat of the days where my safety was your concern? What of your guidance that helped me reach towards the light?Perhaps you look back and feel your time misspent-
“You are very good at like um- You’re also very empathic and so. You observe and absorb a lot so knowing that-”
And now I lay here awake...I just wanna fly
